Emerging Media Strategy

JRMC 7013

What role did this course play in my EM journey?

One of the first things we learned was how to conduct proper user research, which assisted us in delving deeper into our capstone projects and the direction we wanted to take. I’ve done user research before, but nothing as comprehensive as what we learned in this class. This course introduced me to UX design and its many complexities. I learned UX is more than just appealing visuals; it creates a customer journey that encourages users to explore a product or navigate web pages in order to achieve a goal. I had a lot of fun creating our design system brand guides, and it was through this process that I was able to come up with a project name and logo. I was also able to complete the first pass of my user interface in the game, but creating a GUI style in Illustrator is very different from actually using it in the game.

Module 1

Find out if virtual campus tours are of interest by conducting interviews with your intended demographic. The interviews shed light on a few items that were significant to the interviewees that we may have missed otherwise. The interviews provided a wealth of information, some of which included ideas for improvements such as more realistic student interactions and visual graphics of a higher quality.

Module 2

Design System or Brand guidelines are a highly important resource when beginning a new company or rebranding an existing one as a means of communicating with existing customers and potential new customers who fall within your target audience. They are a collection of guidelines that you should follow in order to build a cohesive identity that your audience will be able to recognize across all platforms. These standards should be followed in order to connect many aspects inside your brand, such as the colors, your logo, and your typography.

Module 3

This exercise is designed to provide me with practice in the administration of a user experience (UX) test, which involves recruiting a participant, following a script, monitoring individuals executing tasks, evaluating the outcomes, and producing insights based on the findings of the test. As a result of this project, I feel more equipped to create my very own user experience test, and as a result of this assignment, I feel a little more confident about running my very own user experience tests.
